It’s National Coffee Break Day – Have You Had Your Cup (or Pot) Today?

National Coffee Break Day 201Apparently, it’s National Coffee Break Day.

(Not to be confused with National Coffee Day, September 29). Today, we’re just taking a break.

I’ve celebrated several times. How about you?

In my house, I’m the only one who drinks coffee, which is really cool, because that means it’s all mine. On the other hand, sometimes it would be nice to enjoy a cup with someone.

Sometimes I’ll forgo a coffee craving because I don’t want to make an entire pot.

Another cool thing: I can’t remember the last time I actually made coffee. The Husband of Awesome™ makes me a pot every morning. (Have I mentioned that he doesn’t drink coffee?!)

I’m looking forward to Saturday. I’ll be dropping in on my folks. They have one of those restaurant-grade coffee makers which spills out a pot of java almost faster than it takes you to find a mug and slop in some cream. Some Saturdays, we’ll go through five or six pots of coffee for the five of us. Joy.

I like my coffee with cream and just cool enough to gulp. I like to drink it fast because if it sits too long in the cup it starts to to turn funky. I also prefer the first cup out of the pot because it tastes better than any other.

How about you? Any special coffee preferences?

  • Okay, do we share husbands?? I have the exact same situation around here — and I can’t believe someone else lives this way, too! My husband used to be my partner-in-crime when it came to coffee, but now it gives him heartburn. He still makes it for me every day, without fail. He will occasionally join me for a cup, which I love — there’s nothing like languishing over a big mug of coffee.

I like cream in my coffee, but have responsibly switched to milk and now, uck, skim milk. Not the same. Being out of milk last weekend, I had to scrounge around and eventually found a can of evaporated whole milk to substitute. BLISS!! OMG, SO GOOD! I have been so miserly with that can, I have one more coffee-serving left. And then I will turn back into a pumpkin and go back to skim milk. I also throw in some sugar. Yep, I do. And I love it.

I like it cool enough to drink relaxedly (not a word, I s’pose) rather than piping, pay-attention hot.

All that said, I can only have one cup a day or I put myself into orbit, fueled by caffeine alone. I hate that, but it is what it is. I usually sit down with it right after I’ve kissed my crew goodbye for the day. Ahhhh . . .

    • Hi Lemony!!! I’m exceedingly glad to tell you that we DO NOT share husbands. Mine has never enjoyed the taste of coffee, and has never consumed it beyond the one little sip! Thus, impossible that we share (which is a good thing). 🙂

I tried going the milk-then-skim route with my brew, but I found it unpalatable. I will skip coffee altogether before I adulterate it with something less than pure, sweet, cream. (I’ll have to try the evaporated whole milk thing….is it better than cream?)

I’m craving coffee now. And I’m home alone. Ack! I might actually have to brew a pot for myself.
